      Danang to Lang Co

Departing Danang under a gentle slow-steam, the Revolution Express glides beyond the city’s edge and into the dramatic landscapes of Central Vietnam. Crossing historic French colonial viaducts and winding through hand-carved mountain tunnels, the journey traces the curve of Danang Bay before ascending the legendary Hai Van Pass — one of the most spectacular coastal rail routes in the world.

At the summit, a brief stop invites guests to take in sweeping panoramic views, where emerald mountains meet the sapphire sea and hidden sandy coves stretch along the coastline. Descending along narrow-gauge tracks laid more than a century ago, the train weaves through dense, bush-clad hills before revealing the pristine beauty of Lang Co.

Here, white-sand beaches and the tranquil waters of Lap An Lagoon unfold beneath the forested peaks of Bach Ma National Park — an unforgettable highlight of this iconic rail journey between Danang and Hue.

      Lang Co to Hue

With coal replenished and the boiler refreshed at Lang Co’s ‘Independence’ station, the Revolution Express continues its journey toward Hue — the ancient Imperial capital of Vietnam. Skirting the tranquil shores of Lap An Lagoon, guests enjoy sweeping views of oyster-dotted waters and local fishermen casting their nets, framed by the forested peaks of Bach Ma National Park.

The railway winds through rice paddies, rural hamlets, and over elegant French-built bridges, gradually transitioning into the gentle rhythms of suburban Hue. Soon, the historic 1906 Hue Railway Station comes into view, just moments from the Perfume River and within sight of the Imperial Citadel — a graceful and memorable finale to this immersive Vietnam steam journey.

      Hue to Lang Co

Begin your journey from Hue’s historic ‘Imperial’ station, a railway hub with more than 120 years of heritage that continues to operate as an active steam locomotive workshop. Departing from the heart of the city, just moments from the Perfume River, guests are offered an intimate glimpse into daily life as the train moves slowly through Hue’s timeless streets.

As the landscape opens into the countryside, the journey crosses the vast Tam Giang – Cau Hai lagoon system — the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia and a vital coastal ecosystem. Traditional villages and working farms line the route, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Truong Son mountain range, which stretches from Laos through Central Vietnam to the East Sea.

Passing through tunnels and over steel-girder bridges, the railway follows waterways that feed into rice fields and lagoons, before arriving at the serene Lap An Lagoon. Here, fishing boats and oyster farms rest on calm waters, framed by mountain peaks, before the train reaches Lang Co — a peaceful coastal village and home to our ‘Independence’ station.

      Lang Co to Danang

Awaiting departure at the Indochine-inspired Lang Co ‘Independence’ station, the Revolution Express is set against a backdrop of lush greenery and coastal calm. After time to relax at the station, enjoy local refreshments, or explore the surrounding lagoon and white-sand beaches, the journey to Danang begins.

Climbing steadily out of Lang Co, guests are rewarded with spectacular views of the iconic sandspit that separates lagoon from sea — one of Central Vietnam’s most photographed landscapes. The railway then winds along the mountainside, revealing a dramatic contrast of remote beaches and rocky headlands on one side, with rolling green hills on the other.

A brief stop at the summit of the legendary Hai Van Pass offers a moment of quiet reflection, with panoramic views stretching across mountains and ocean. From here, the train descends through a series of tunnels and historic viaducts, gradually revealing the modern coastal skyline of Danang.

As the journey concludes on the outskirts of the city, guests disembark to the soft, lingering sound of steam — a fitting end to a timeless rail experience along one of Vietnam’s most scenic routes.
